Hi this is Kyra!
I am the third volunteer and I just started working full time at the Eko Centar this week. My first job was to clean the fridge - good news for all visitors! Really, though, it wasn't too bad. Next I was put to the task of finding rocks. The Centar is building a low wall as a gathering place for people to sit on. The workers and volunteers are doing it all by hand and they are doing a fantastic job! The rocks helped level out the land so that the wall is straight. It's a big project but it will definitely add a lot to the Centar.
Check out the pictures!

You can see the steps to building the wall in each picture.

Looks impressive but they only let me do this for about 2 minutes before they took over again.

Happy Independence Day!
This is Lindsay and Kyra. Today we threw a party at the Eko Centar in honor of our American holiday. It was a big hit!
We made hamburgers and hot dogs, potato salad, watermelon, and potato chips for lunch. Classic Fourth of July foods. For dessert we had apple pie with vanilla ice cream- delicious! One guest told us it was the best dessert he has ever had. Not sure if that's true but hey, we'll take it! :) Then of course, we had to teach everyone the very tradition American game of Beer Pong. To say they loved it would be an understatement. Some of our guests were so happy we invited them to the party that they searched ALL over Mostar for t-shirts with American flags on them! After the festivities at the Eco Center, Ado was nice enough to take all of us to the River Bunica for a swim! The water was SO cold, it took us a few minutes to actually get in, but after a while we got so hot sitting on the bank that the icy water felt great! The day was super chill and it was a really great time, especially being able to share our culture with other people! We hope everyone in the U.S. had a great Fourth and we love all the pictures that are being posted on facebook! The one thing we didn't have was fireworks so seeing all the pictures is nice!

Can you tell what holiday we are celebrating?!?

Hey its Jenna here lovin' life at the Eco Center! Lindsay and I decided to give you an idea of a day in the life of a volunteer at the Eco Center.  So here it goes!
Picture
First we were greeted by the hungry kittens and puppies, so we got them some tasty bread and yogurt for a delicious breakfast!

Picture
Then of course, coffee break!!!  Nothing tastes better than the turkish coffee that Lindsay makes :)  Thanks Sanel and Ado for showing us the proper way!

Here is Sanel our DJ who sets up our tunes for the day!

After finding the perfect music and sipping our coffee, we are off to feed and water the donkeys! The food is lofted in the barn and we are too short to get it down, so we had to problem solve, and it worked out pretty well!
Picture
After feeding the donkeys, we were off to clean Dolly's cage!

Picture
Once we finished Dolly's cage- there was more cleaning to be done. We had to organize the shed! There was so much to be done! But Lindsay and I tackled the shed head on and it turned out wonderfully! But first, here is a picture of Lindsay and I trying to get excited to clean this thing out. We are both so glad we didn't find a mouse or a spider or we would have been outta there in a heartbeat.

Picture
We are getting excited to clean, can you tell!?

And the finished product is...beautiful.
Well, thats all I have for now, but guess what!? Kyra starts at the Eco Center on Monday, so we will have more stories to share with you and finally a third blogger!

Orientation day?!

The three of us are the newest volunteers to the Eco Center in Blagaj! I am in the purple, my name is Lindsay  and I am currently writing this blog! The girl in the middle is Jenna, she will also update the blog and in the orange is Kyra, who I'm sure you will hear from as well! This picture was taken at the Dervish House, just 10 minutes away, but we are headed to meet the animals and the people we will be working with right after this!  We won't actually start volunteering until this Wednesday, but it is always nice to get a feel for the surroundings...and eat. We were treated to lunch...or breakfast, possibly a brunch that consisted of ALL organic foods and homemade juices! It was wonderful...and shockingly the best eggs I have ever had.

Picture
We aren't sure if they like us or not! The littlest donkey, Suzie, escaped and Kyra and I had to get her back in! As you can tell, we were not dressed appropriately to chase down a baby donkey!
Needless to say, the girls and I know we will love it here and can't wait to begin! We just hope we are able to keep up with all the animals! Especially Suzie! She's a fast little thing! Stay tuned for more pictures of our first week as volunteers!

Til then... try and stay cool because its SUPER hot in Blagaj.

Lindsay :)
